Lyrics

St. Andrew Cross ©
There’s an old flag hanging on my living room wall
I had to take it down off the pole in the yard ‘cause someone said it just wasn’t right at all
They said it reminds us of a time that we’re trying to forget
But I ain’t ready to give up on those old times yet
And regardless of all we may have lost
I ain’t ready to give up on my St. Andrews Cross

Beneath its’ thirteen stars cannons thundered across the plains
But history has silenced them now
It waved proudly above the capital of South Carolina
It stood vigil as the rebel dead were laid into the ground
Racism and hate, all that stuff be damned
Because that old flag is a part of who I am
And regardless of all we may have lost
I ain’t ready to give up on my St. Andrews Cross

Now I’m proud to be from America and I hope you know that’s true
But I’m also damn proud to be a southern boy too
And to make that mean something again it’ll be my personal job
To be American by birth, and Southern by the grace of God

Do your best and I dare you to try
And you will find out oh so quickly, yeah
There’s ain’t no way in heaven or hell
You can ever take that rebel flag away from me

I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times there are not forgotten
Look away, look away…
